You may know that wine is usually stored in underground cellars to keep the liquid cool and preserve taste for years to come. Since you cannot have a cellar in a urban home, you can use a wine refrigerator instead.
Wines are preserved in underground cellars because they create the perfect flavors when stored in low temperatures. You might not be able have an underground cellar in your urban home, but you can certainly get a wine refrigerator. It is ideal to store most wines at around 13 degree celsius, and some wines require temperature slightly lower. If you do not want to store wines for long periods, you can just chill it before you pop it open.
The temperature control of the refrigerator is different than the kitchen refrigerator. The temperature settings can be controlled depending on whether you would like to store the wine or temporarily chill it.
Not only will normal fridges chill the wines excessively, the fact that they are opened frequently means that the internal temperature fluctuates. Wine needs to a constant temperature to be maintained and so, a regular fridge cannot provide that either.
A standard wine refrigerator will take up very little space in your home and a smaller model may even be placed right on top of the bar counter and will cost you around $100.
But if you are a connoisseur and want to replicate a wine cellar in your home, you may choose a model with more features and detail. The bigger wine refrigerators are as big as your kitchen fridge and contain different cooling zones for different kinds of wine.
Unless you are a professional taster or connoisseur, it might prove a rather expensive investment. This is because these specially designed wine refrigerators can easily come equipped with a price tag of 2000$.
So if you simply want to store and age your wine, the wine refrigerator will serve your purpose. Serve your wine at the right temperature!
